Frequently Asked Questions

What is BYOD

We offer two modems, however we offer the option for you to bring your own device. Carriers only authorize certain devices to be used on data only service plans so we will need to get an IMEI from you during checkout to be sure it is an approved device. The IMEI is located on the tag on the outside of the modem. Unapproved devices may not activate or could be blacklisted which is why we verify all devices before allowing them to be deployed with one of our data only plans.

What if my device isn’t approved

We will verify the IMEI and if it isn’t an approved device, you can get a full refund or purchase one of our modems. Alternatively, you can call us or text us before purchasing to have us verify it before you buy.

What is the difference in the two modems?

Both the Residential and the Commercial modems are great options. The Commercial Modem offers more output power to reach towers at the greatest distances available without the use of an external antenna, both 2.5 and 5G Wi-Fi, dual SIM slots, more bands for connecting to towers, and more functionality for users that want the most networking features or users that just prefer the best device available.

Why would I choose the Residential LTE modem?

The Residential LTE Modem is a great option for most applications. This is a new model that adds more broadcast power than the previous one, more bands for communicating with towers, and 2.5G W-Fi, meaning you no longer need an additional router. This lowers the cost of entry to get started as the original modem we used to sell required a separate router. Both modems we offer are plug and play meaning all you must do is power the device on, connect to its Wi-Fi and enjoy an instant connection to the internet.

Why would I choose the Commercial LTE Modem?

The commercial LTE Modem provides more broadcast power, so if you are within 5 miles of a tower it has the best chance of picking up the signal without an external antenna. It also has more bands which just gives it more options when connecting to a tower. In addition, it has two SIM slots for multiple line connectivity, both 2.5 and 5G Wi-Fi, and a user interface with the most advanced networking capabilities offered. Both modems we offer are plug and play meaning all you must do is power the device on, connect to its Wi-Fi and enjoy an instant connection to the internet.

What are the antennas and what is the difference?

The antennas we offer work with either of the modems we sell and allow your device to improve the signal reception which typically translates to a faster more reliable connection.

What is the RuOmni LTE antenna?

The RuOmni is an antenna that does not have to be pointed in the direction of the tower, it receives signal from all directions. This is a great add on for either of the modems and is plug and play. Simply plug it into the back of the modem and you should see an improvement in performance. For even greater performance it can be installed outside.

What is the RuPanel LTE antenna?

The RuPanel is an antenna that needs to be pointed in the direction of the tower, it receives signal from one direction. This is a great add on for either of the modems and is plug and play. Simply plug it into the back of the modem, point it towards the tower, and you should see an improvement in performance. For even greater performance it can be installed outside.

Which antenna should I choose?

If you want something plug and play in that you can plug it in and see better performance either of the antennas will do that. The RuOmni will not need any adjusting however it does not have as much range as the RuPanel. If you are still unsure just contact us and we will help you decide.

What is the length of cable on the antennas?

Both antennas have a 25’ cable.
